Tonight’s Wine Tasting
#ThursdayFlightNight @DowntownArtWalk Edition | April 11th from 7-11p | $19 per person
Hosted by: Winemaker Andrew Jones & Tasters Cup Champion David Duman
FIELD RECORDINGS Line-Up:
#1 Field Recordings Jurassic Park Vineyard Chenin Blanc, Santa Ynez Valley, CA 2011 $16.50
Pound for pound the best domestic Chenin Blanc you’ll find. It’s the Manny Pacquiao of white wines in CA. Notes of lemon verbena and poppy join flavors of lime sun tea, coconut and custard, with a softly rounded mouth-feel that keeps the zesty acidity of Chenin Blanc, but doesn’t become flabby like heavily oaked white wine.
#2 “Wonderwall” Spanish Springs Vineyard Chardonnay Central Coast CA 2012 $18.50
The wine pays homage to old school CA Chardonnay. But don’t be fooled, there is a strong rip tide of acidity and real Chardonnay character just under the surface. Straight face Chardonnay. A crowd pleaser.
#3 “Wonderwall” Pinot Noir Central Coast CA 2012 $18.50
Don’t look for high-drama in your glass on this one. You won’t see this wine on the list at the Biltmore Hotel. It’s more Ace Hotel…young, hip and ready to party.
#4 Field Recordings Crockett Hill Vineyard Petite Sirah, Edna Valley, CA 2011 $22.50
Dynamic, with aromatics of black pepper, kalamata olive and gruyere, this wine is also rich in flavors of blackberry jam, truffles and dragonfruit tea. Spicy and bright, with a velveteen mouthfeel, it seems the perfect match for grilled meats.
#5 Field Recordings ‘Neverland’ Grassini Vineyard Happy Canyon CA 2011 $29.75
[ 75% Cab Sauv, 15% Petit Verdot, 10% Merlot ]
“Neverland” has been a BUZZ staple since the moment David Duman showed it to us for the first time, about a year ago. You don’t find a CA wine with such craft and assertive style at this price these days. Layered with notes of red currant, spearmint, bacon, and smokes cedar planks, this wine seems to change almost by the second. It is plush, both in aromatics and in mouthfeel, with black cherry, violets, kirsch and creme de cassis joining notes of pipe tobacco and cola. Truly CA Bordeaux
